When does tech recruiting start?
Tech recruiting starts as early as August and as late as May. The timeline for recruiting varies from company to company, so it depends on where you decide to apply.
- For Big Tech (i.e. Amazon, Google, Apple, Adobe), positions will go live in the fall semester.
- For small to mid-sized tech companies, positions are typically posted over winter break and into the spring semester (starting in mid-January, right after the holidays).
- For startups, expect just-in-time hiring: meaning that companies will not likely know if and when they will need MBA interns until March/April time frame, or right before the summer.
Best advice to apply for a tech job?
The most successful applicants will...
- Tailor their resume to the job posting. This is the #1 most important thing you can do. Tech companies want to see that you have experience in the position that you're applying for.
- Apply early. Often, companies will stop looking at applications once they have enough to sift through. The listings on CMG Bears may be receiving applications on a rolling basis (even if there is a 'deadline,' so try to do your best to apply earlier vs. later.
- Connect with at 1 individual (alum or simply someone in your network!) to the company that you're interested in. This will help you better understand your fit with the company.

No, many of us are career pivoters! Pivoting into tech from a non-tech (or even non-business) background is common 🙂

Most tech positions that MBAs go to do not require technical skills! Roles that may require these types of skills include...
